Introducing Sharon Gates - Sport Coordinator Wairarapa

Sport Coordinator appointed for the Wairarapa

dsport are proud to announce the appointment of Sharon Gates as Sport Coordinator for the Wairarapa.

For several years, dsport has been working to secure funding to appoint a Sport Coordinator in the Wairarapa as we recognised there is a need to provide programmes and services to disabled people, particularly disabled young people, living in the region.

Sharon brings over 15 years’ experience across the sport and aquatic industries. Most recently, she was employed by Hockey Wairarapa, where she managed all operational functions and led sport delivery across the region. Sharon holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Sport Management and is a qualified pool lifeguard. She is also an accredited trainer and assessor for a range of Te Mahi Ako certificates.

Sharon has experience working with young people across both recreational and educational settings. A retired hockey player, she remains actively involved in the sport as an umpire and coach. Sharon has coached hockey for 23 years and, over the past two years, has led the Kuranui College 1st XI girls to strong and successful tournament results.

If you are based in the Wairarapa, or have whanau and friends living there, please feel free to reach out to Sharon.
